1983 – 1987 Akureyri Junior College (Menntaskólinn á Akureyri), graduated from natural sciences.
1988 – 1989 Suðurnes Comprehensive & Community College (Fjölbrautaskóli Suðurnesja), studying to become a professional pilot.
1990 – 1994 University of Iceland (UNIS), graduated with a BSc degree in biology.
1994 – 1995 Fourth year study (BSh) from UNIS in cooperation with the Marine Research Institute (MRI), finished with a thesis.
1996 –1999 University of British Columbia (UBC), Department of Zoology, Fisheries Centre in Vancouver, Canada. Graduated with a MSc degree in fisheries biology. Supervisor was
Carl J. Walters and the thesis was on stock assessment of Icelandic flatfishes.
Various studies, I have aimed at taking at least one course each year. 1986 – Private pilot licence. 1989 – Flight trainer course. 1996 – A week long course on scientific writing at UBC. 2000 – A week long course on marine survival, regularily updated. 2003 – Speed reading course. 2003-2004 – About 90 hour course on management 2004-2005 – License to sail 30 t boats.
Professional experience
1987 – 1988 DNG h/f in Akureyri, manufacturing of electronic jigging reels
1989 Icelandair, loading and unloading planes and servicing at Akureyri airport.
1989 – 1991 Útgerðarfélag Akureyringa h/f, Fisherman on trawlers.
1993 – 1998 Research assistant at the MRI in Reykjavik and Akureyri from 1993 to 1998, both as a summer job while in university and full time job.
1998 – now Specialist at the MRI in Akureyri from 1998 and branch manager since Sept. 1999 (50%), teacher and later assistant professor at the Department of Natural Resource
Studies at the University of Akuryri (UNAK) since 1999 (50%).
