Research and Professional Training Leave

According to announcement from rector the deadline of application for sabbatical leave will  be announced later.

 

Research leave                                                                                                                                                Professors, associate professors, assistant professors and adjunct lecturers at the University of Akureyri can apply for research leave on the basis of a contract on salaries and work conditions between the Minister of Finance and the University of Akureyri that states in Article 10.1.3:   

The University Council is authorised to reduce or remove the teaching and administrative duties of university teaching staff for 1 or 2 semesters at a time, in order to make it possible for the staff member to spend  more (an increased part) of his working time on research. Teaching and administrative duties performed by the teaching staff both during regular work hours and while on research leave shall normally constitute at least 50% of the work load, but the University Council is authorised in exceptional circumstances to waive this condition.  

Rules on research leave were approved at a meeting of the University Council of the University of Akureyri on December 12th 2005. Applications for research leave are to be submitted to the Research Centre of the University of Akureyri before February 1st each year.   

Teaching staff and other employees, who have received leave, are to submit reports on work performed during their periods of leave no later than 2 months after  expiry of leave.

Professional Training Leave.         

Permanent  staff of the University, unhampered by research duties, who have worked at the University for at least four years, are entitled to apply for professional training leave extending for as long as two months. Rules on professional training leave were approved at a meeting of the University Council of the University of Akureyri on June 16th 2000.

Applications for professional training leave are to be received by the project manager no later than three months prior to commencement of the leave. If the applicant is able to apply sooner, it is to be done, and then it is advantageous to receive the application before the approval of the operations plan for the year involved.
