The University of Akureyri Research Centre (RHA) has been granted 550,000 DKK by the Nordic Council of Ministers, for two research projects.

The projects are a part of the Arctic Cooperation Programme 2009-2011. This is the second year RHA gets grants for projects under the Arctic Co- operation Programme 2009-2011.

 

A grant amount of 200,000 DKK goes to the Northern Research Forum (NRF) under the heading ”Our ice dependent world“. The purpose of the project is to organize, prepare and invite selected panelists and young researchers to the 6th NRF Open Assembly that will take place in Oslo and Kirkenes October 24-27th 2010.  Project manager is Guðrún Rósa Þórsteinsdóttir, director of RHA.

The other project called ”Megaproject planning in the circumpolar north was granted 350,000 DKK. The aim of the project is to contribute a better involvement of local stakeholders in planning processes in general, but particularly regarding megaprojects in the Circumpolar North. Project manager is Hjalti Jóhannesson, researcher and assistant director of RHA. Other participants are from Finland and Germany.
